Managing the Project
Existing information on headache disorders will be collected by scientific and lay literature research and expert exchange at national and EU level, involvement of the stakeholders including health authorities structures, practitioners and patients organizations. The indicators of the impact modules will be prepared following examination of existing statistical data on headache disorders available at national and European level from scientific institutions as well as patient organizations'' input, finding neglected aspects and closely examining cultural differences. A first version of the compiled impact modules will be prepared and validated for face content, language validity, test-retest reliability, internal consistency, construct validity, comprehension/ completion rate and response rates by 6 centers in 6 different countries covering 40 respondents each, who will complete the compiled modules at a 4 week interval. The modules will include general epidemiology information (age, gender, working situation, language) headache criteria, medical consultation habits and given diagnosis; socio-economic information and global burden of migraine (work loss, socio-economic functioning, a WHO disability assessment questionnaire), validated scales for the evaluation of depression and anxiety as co-morbidities of headache, questions about disease management, their outcome, satisfaction and needs of treatment and finally questions about the implication of headache on the social environment and the social acceptance of the headache disorder.
The validated compiled modules will be translated in national languages for the 10 impact pilot countries (France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Spain). A new informatic tool will be developed for the input of the compiled modules at country level and their transfer to Luxembourg.
Numbers about headache prevalence do not exist for Eastern Europe. In Lithuania, before the pilot impact study starts, there will be a prevalence evaluation.
In the other 9 impact pilot countries headache sufferers will be recruited from established structures experienced in collecting information from headache sufferers, independently if they have seen a doctor for their headaches or not.
Encoding of each the modules will be done locally with tutoring and supervision by the main partner CRP- Santé to ensure comparable encoding procedures. The information will be transferred electronically to a central collecting point in Luxembourg.
Accepted completed module information will be processed in the central database in Luxembourg and analyzed for burden and impact of headache, disease-management and socio-economic impact.
